How traditional was 'the Royal Wedding' of 2011?
(Cue: The chimes of 'Big Ben') "The house of Kings, Westminster Abbey. For a thousand years, the cradle of royal power." This is the opening line of the BBC video on the left, made to celebrate the Royal Wedding of July 2011. Watch the video, and by comparing it to the any other royal weddings of the 20th century, ask yourself :'how much of the 'tradition' expressed in this wedding and this wedding video was originally an invented tradition, and how much of it re-invented in 2011 in order to help reinvigorate the logo of the royal family in the eyes of the British public?
